[Reuters] France warns on overdependence from foreign exports in talks over energy security in the European Union

Following the first day of talks in the Council of the European Union, representatives on Friday morning have continued to debate on energy prices and the security of supply in the European Union.

Portugal raised the possibility of signing new free trade agreements with other countries to ensure energy security in the Union. France, while recognizing the need for such agreements on a short-term perspective, stressed that the Union shouldn’t be overly dependent on foreign exports. In that case, a situation similar to the one the European Union has been facing since the war between Russia and Ukraine could arise again.
