Have you ever gone to a boring concert and left disappointed? This time, it will not be the case. If you’re a music lover, you may want to pass by the Theater aan het Vrijthof to attend a vibrant, and interactive experience! During the night of Friday 11 April, museums of Maastricht will keep their doors open all night for the 9th edition of the Museumnacht Maastricht.
Among them, the Theater aan het Vrijthof, a central figure in the cultural life of the city and the wider Euregio Meuse-Rhine. Housed in a historic building on the Vrijthof square, the theatre has grown into one of the leading stages in the Netherlands. With a strong focus on music and performing arts, it has been bringing people together for decades through its broad programming and welcoming atmosphere. They gave us a glimpse into their Museumnacht program during an interview.
The night will start packed with emotion with the musically gifted mother-son duo, Anastasia Safona and Andrej van Brakel. They will enchant the whole audience, whether locals or expats, through piano and cello recitals. Their special connection will create a magical chemistry that will fill the room and transport you into their enchanting universe. As they will perform two concerts with distinct programs, including both solo and duet recitals, they will showcase the work of well-known, but also lesser-known composers, such as Piazzolla and Shchedrin, as well as Schubert and Popper. You will have an energised and fully diversified journey through romantic and contemporary pieces, paced by fast, and slow music, mixing short and long works.
Following this peaceful, guided voyage, you will then become an actor in a new, interactive experience. Indeed, in WARBOEL, an artistic and entertaining performance, Sounds Like Juggling will come on stage to interact with spectators and experience thrilling and hilarious moments together. Their art consists of a unique combination of juggling, music, and singing, along with offering a mood-boosting experience. The spectacle features their unique instruments like the Draadbal, which connects performers and spectators through a thread with each throw, but also the Oddball, which creates bass lines and melodies through sensors activated by juggling. Finally, the Micbal will capture voices from the audience to create a musical tapestry. So, are you ready to compose in the most exciting way?
To ensure smooth transitions and great ambiance, the DJ duo Disco El Sur will rock it before and after the performances, playing old-fashioned CDs. Their creative energy will complement that of Anastasia Safona and Andrej van Brakel, as well as Sounds Like Juggling, with each contributing in their own way to the festival vibe of the evening. To wrap up the event, Disco El Sur will create a relaxed atmosphere with a selection of French and Italian music, while you might have the chance to interact with the artists.
Overall, this night promises to be unforgettable through its variety, merging the worlds of traditional and innovative music.
