The Council of Ministers passed the Instruction on the Protection of Vital Infrastructures (IPVI). Originating from the Parliament Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), it aimed to reinforce the protection and safeguard of vital infrastructure and limit damage mitigation of cyber attacks.
The recommendation, sponsored by Denmark (SOC) and Finland (EPP/CO), concerned the protection of infrastructure in all vital sectors, with emphasis on medical, power, financial, and transportation. It further included listing a minimum requirement for software performance.
What was passed in the recommendation was almost unanimously agreed upon within the committee.
As it is up to member nations to enforce the recommendation, time will tell how long these infrastructures can stand without IT support.
